AND IT'S HISTORY...

[Continued from Page 1]

August 4, 2012 - This month's meeting topic was ballon magic. And what a crazy and fun meeting it was! Twisted balloons and balloon fragments everywhere. Utter magical chaos. Also, some members of the club shared their experiences attending the annual Society of American Magicians Convention (held this year in Las Vegas). And at the end of the meeting we had a couple of members close out the afternoon with some card magic.

July 23-26, 2012 - We had several members of the Lincoln Magic Club attend the national Society of American Magicians convention in Las Vegas. As you can imagine, they ran into tons of famous magicians, attended some fantastic performance and lectures, and had a great time being meeting magicians from around the country. Here's a short report from our president, Luis Villamonte:

"The 84th annual S.A.M. Convention this year was in Las Vegas on July 23-26, 2012. When we checked in at registration at the Golden Nugget Hotel on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas, we received our convention program and other goodies and our name badge that allowed admittance to the 7 lectures and 4 special events, the 5 close-up and stage shows and contests that were held in the hotel, and the dealers room. We also received 4 additional show tickets which include the Mac King and David Copperfield afternoon shows and the two Gala evening shows at the brand new Smith Center. All these items were included with our registration.

In addition, Jeff Buttars went to the optional banquet ($70) which includes the Milbourne Christopher Awards and entertainment by Steve Daly and presented by your incoming President, Christopher Bontjes.

The Copperfield show was presented at the MGM Grand and the Mac King show was at Harrah's, both on the strip. The Smith Center was a 20 minute walk from the Golden Nugget.

The convention as a whole was wonderful and I am sure Jeff Buttars (LMC Officer), Hank Zieg, Louie (my son) and Chase Hasty has a great time and experience. If Chase and Louie were ever away from me at any time, I could always find them in the dealer's room. Bob little and the kids really hit it off and had so much fun pulling antics on other magicians.

If you like magic, a convention is a great place to start and if it's in Las Vegas, you should never miss one."

July 14, 2012 - Harry Houdini's prediction, "A spectacular time will be had by all," came true. The 2012 Lincoln Magic Club Summer Picnic was one for the record books. Over 40 magicians and family members attended the event with ages ranging from 1 - 89 years. The evening started out with mingling and a pot luck picnic. After dinner we were treated to magic performances by Lou Villamonte, Bruce Jacoby, Chase Hasty and Mark Robertson. The Magic Olympics brought everyone together to compete in the "penny relay" and "card toss." Rolf Shaeffer won the child division, and Darren Kauk was the adult division winner. After a wild "card/water balloon" fight, the evening closed with amazing rope performances by our newest member, John Fiala, and Bruce Jacoby.

June 10, 2012 - The Magic Club spent the afternoon at the Lincoln Race Track for "Runza Day at the Races." We had several club members stop by and stroll around the crowd, performing magic here and there. It was a great event and everyone had a good time!

June 2, 2012 - For our June monthly meeting the club focused on magnetic magic. We also had many members show off some other tricks and effects that they have been learning. Like always, it was a great meeting. Enjoy the following pictures from the afternoon:

May 19, 2012 - The Lincoln Magic Club sponsored a lecture by Kozmo. He is the creator of Kozmo Magic & Reel Magic Magazine and and has lectured all over the U.S. Everyone who attended had a great time and enjoyed learning new material.

May 5, 2012 - For the May meeting we discussed magic accessories. We covered many of the important items that help support magicians with their effects.

April 7, 2012 - For the April meeting we discussed comedy magic and other topics. Thanks to all who came out. It was a fun meeting, as always.

March 10, 2012 - Thanks to all the magicians and members of the club that came out to the SouthPointe Barnes and Noble bookstore. We spent an hour doing walkaround magic for the store patrons and it was a ton of fun. There was a great mix of material and young and old alike enjoyed the magic. The day was planned by the bookstore as a community bookfair for McPhee Elementary School, so the store was packed with shoppers. It was a great opportunity to get into "the trenches" and work on some techniques and spectator interaction.
